Vehicle interior

4-21, If a vehicle does not have a roll cage, competition seat and full harness, the vehicle interior around the driver must stay in place. ie. dashboard, steering column covers, centre console and drivers door panel (as per reg 1-12) must be fitted and there must be no sharp or protruding edges etc.

I dont have a roll cage. What am I allowed to remove from the car to save weight, can I take out the passenger seat, the passenger pannels and the rear pannels behind the drivers seat similar to this

Hi Alan,

We've never had a carpet in our car so I can't see it being an issue. the main concern is sharp edges/hard surfaces that are exposed when trim is removed which would otherwise cushion flailing limbs in an impact.

Alan I have taken out the carpets, the carpet behind the seats and all the plastic trim behind the seats. The passenger seat and if you spend about 8 hours chipping away at the sound deadening material on the floor it weighs about 10kg well worth the effort :D

But remember that if you remove carpets and other stuff from the floor you are raising the centre of gravity :o

I got some skateboard griptape from ebay, much lighter than rubber matting ;)

Could do with redoing now though as it's worn out.
